There are several different types of transactions that you can enter into Portfolio Manager.  Each of this change the behavior that the transaction has on your Portfolio.  For example when using a short trade the profit increases when the share price drops.  The default is ordinary share.

Ordinary Share                        Normal shares.  The cost is added to your total amount invested.
Dividend Reinvestment           Used when you receive a dividend reinvestment.  As there is no extra money invested to receive these shares there's no change made to the cash account total or available funds.
Special Issue                           Does basically the same as dividend reinvestment but with a different title
Short                                       A short trade is like an ordinary share except that the profit increases the lower the share price gets.
